CEO

Luís Silva, PhD

Luis Silva is CEO and founder of WIT. He is still an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science in the University of Coimbra– with a vast activity in the areas of distributed and mobile computing and more than 130 papers published. Luis was already managing WIT’s team in University projects, and carried on with most of the team into the company. With that former team, he helped Vodafone Portugal to launch WAP service before everyone else in Portugal – and most of the world – starting the mobile internet race in the local Market. All together Luis is managing these teams for over 15 years.
Already in WIT, he continued the partnership with Vodafone Portugal to launch all SMS based services (Games, Chat, Voting among others) as well as in many other areas. He also took WIT outside the boundaries of Portugal, to the US and Canada, Europe, Africa and Asia, and still continues to support the company’s expansion with customers like Vodafone Global, Panasonic, Nokia, Telefonica Moviles, Procter&Gamble, Alcatel, Ericsson, CGD, Banif and SIC, and has also been involved in projects with the European Space Agency.

CTO and Telco Business Unit Director

Pedro Pereira, MSc

Pedro Pereira is the company’s CTO and leads the Telecommunications Business Unit and R&D group, counting with more than 20 software development engineers. Pedro also came from the university development group led by Luis Silva in 2001, where he developed several products for the mobile Internet, like SMS Games and WAP Portals, for Siemens and Vodafone Portugal Already at WIT, Pedro has been managing projects and working in Product Management for more than 5 years, ranging from products like the WIT Mobile Content Platform, SMS Router, MMS Push Server, WIT Mobile Backup, iPhone Applications to the WIT Communications Suite. Pedro has been working with portuguese and international companies, like Vodafone Portugal, Vodafone Group, Vodafone Spain, Vodacom South Africa and P&T Luxembourg.

Vice President of Business and Product Development

Lino Silva, MSc

Lino Silva, joined the company in 2010 becoming the vice-president of Business & Product Development, after working for Vodafone for 10 years, first as IT Director in Portugal and later in Vodafone Group Services leading the Messaging Group. Lino moved then to Vodafone Turkey where he headed the Products & Services Department and, as executive manager, successfully launched the 3G program. Previously, Lino had a long carrier of 20 years in the banking industry.

Business Development and Marketing Director

Paulo Glórias, MSc

Paulo Glórias leads WIT Software’s Business Development and Marketing Unit. Paulo spent most of his career in Vodafone Portugal, and more than 2 years in the Vodafone Group. While at Vodafone Portugal, he launched the WAP service, the Mobile Connect Card, Blackberry, 3G and the Wireless LAN business. Additionally, he was part of the management team of the YORN Business Unit, a brand from Vodafone Portugal focused on the youth market. While in Vodafone Group, Paulo managed several programmes for IT systems consolidation, enabling huge savings for the company.
Paulo’s mission is to further develop the company’s business internationally.

Media Business Unit Director

Rui Oliveira, MSc

Rui Oliveira leads the Media Business Unit, where he has been working closely with leading media companies as well as with some national major banks. Rui was also a member of the former development group led by Luis Silva in 2001, where he was lead developer in several projects for Siemens and Vodafone Portugal.
Already at WIT Software, Rui has been managing projects for more than 5 years, together with Vodafone Portugal, SIC, Procter & Gamble, Vodafone Group and Real Networks. Among the most relevant projects are Safe Taxi and Mobile ATM.

Software Quality Director

Nuno Carvalho, MSc

Nuno Carvalho leads the Software Quality Unit, where he makes sure WIT delivers world class products to our customers. He specializes in software quality assurance and control where he manages a team of independent software tester engineers. He has a course from ITSQB Software Testing Foundation. Prior to the current position he was project manager of an European Space Agency project, several R&D projects and he spent 5 years as a software engineer for mobile operator projects. He developed for Vodafone Portugal the first version of mobile ATM application, many WAP and SMS services as well as several middleware applications for messaging, location-based services and billing.

WIT-Lab Coordinator

Frederico Lopes, BSc

Frederico Lopes is the coordinator of WIT-Lab, the R&D Department of the company, and also manages some of the product lines, like the WIT Communication Suite. Before joining WIT he spent 6 years developing software solutions for the health market. In 2009 he became a Certified SCRUM Master and he’s using the SCRUM framework in all the projects ever since.
