Social Responsibility

Our goal

WIT Software truly believes that corporate social responsibility programs can have a fundamental contribution to the social problems and can ultimately lead to a fairer society. Our goal is to work with our employees and local communities, identify areas in need and allocate the human and monetary resources to help. We have been proud to contribute to solve, in the past years, situations like poverty, sickness, illiteracy and lack of basic resources.

Our program

Our social responsibility program has two components:
1) Our employees well-being: our employees have to be Happy and Witty People. We do are best to achieve this goal.
2) Help the society: Reaching out to local communities through our WIT Helps Program.

Results

In 2008, six non-profit institutions from the metropolitan area of Coimbra were sponsored by WIT Software, which provided food, equipment, clothes and toys.
In 2009, WIT Software embraced a national project named “Terra dos Sonhos”, whose goal is to fulfill the dream of children with chronic or terminal diseases. So far we have accomplished the dreams of 7 children and more will follow. Find more about this fantastic project at http://www.terradossonhos.org.
2010 was the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. WIT Software sponsored thirteen institutions that provide support to abandoned children and homeless people. The number of internal employees that participated in these actions increased significantly and the actions we support were very effective.

Joining Efforts

In the corporate world, we are moving towards an international consensus that social responsibility is important and critical to the progress of our societies. With that in mind, WIT Software is making sound efforts in social responsibility awareness and involvement, and counts with partners to share this vision and truly make the difference.

Environmental Responsibility

Our goal

Environment awareness and protection is a priority for the conservation of natural resources and ultimately to sustainability in our planet. Aware of this responsibility, WIT Software is playing a pro-active role promoting greener activities among our employees and through our customers, suppliers, partners and interested parties.

Green practices

WIT Software is continually striving to preserve environment patrimony through the execution and promotion of green practices. Our current initiatives focus mainly in four areas:
1) Recycling: paper, plastic, printer toners
2) Reduction of energy consumption: computers, A/C and electronic devices powered down when not in use
3) Reduction of material waste: paper re-use and avoiding unnecessary printing
4) Acquisition of environmentally friendly supplies: environmental friendly products preference

Efforts

In 2009, we partnered with ANEFA – Associação Nacional de Empresas Florestais, Agricolas e do Ambiente, and embraced the project ProNatura to help reforest damaged areas devastated by fire. The tree plantation of 1.000 autochthonous trees took place at the Reserva Natural do Parque Nacional Serra da Estrela, in Celorico da Beira.

In 2010, we continued our partnership with ANEFA – Associação Nacional de Empresas Florestais, Agricolas e do Ambiente, and we embraced the project ProNatura to help reforest damaged areas devastated by fire. We are currently implementing an environment management system, according to the norm 14001:2004, that will formalize our commitment to the environment in a systematically way and lead us to continuously improve our performance.
